Burnin' the Midnight Oil

Last night my college professor visited me in my dreams. I was helping her sell her new clothing line out of a grocery store. She had about 8 pieces in the collection and they were completely adorable. The best piece sold immediately, as I was holding it up and inspecting it.
I was so impressed with my professor for designing all these pieces. And she said, "Look at you. You're not doing anything!"
Well, poo. In real life, my professor was always very encouraging, so I'm thinking it was really me telling me that I'm not good enough. Which is strange, because I've actually been feeling pretty accomplished lately. Making those little steps.
I woke up this morning feeling great anyway - because who do you think actually designed those pieces in her collection, hmm? Then I had a nice full day of doing all those little things, and because of the dream, I put myself back in that old drawing class and sketched a lady out of my favorite editorial of the moment.

That dream was a nice little shove, actually.

Matthew Partridge

I don't know if these are done with real paper, or just pieced together digitally, but I love them and I want to do something like them. I'm collecting jpgs that I want to use later for digital collages. I'm also collecting magazines and newspapers at home. The digital idea is looking a lot better as compared to the little rat's nest I'm creating.

Matthew Partridge found via notpaper, another excellent blog all about collage.

P.S. It seems the name of the blog (notpaper) would make these collages 'not paper.' I don't know if that is a rule for what appears on the blog; I just wanted to mention that I did notice that and I am still wondering if it answers my original question.

Hauntingly Perfect

These two dresses have been stuck in my head for a few weeks now. They go with me everywhere. I'm going to let them slosh around and simmer in there for a little while longer, and then, hopefully, let their harmonious, beauteous lovechild out of my mind and onto the sewing table, where it will be whipped up into a delicious, trumpet-sleeved concoction of my very own!

What I'm Thinking

In trying to inspire myself, I find a list of things I'd like to say I've accomplished, but still not much motivation to actually do anything.
These drawings, collages, videos, designs, and photographs I post are dreams I have of things I haven't done.
I know that the little things I do each day are leading to the bigger-and-better, but I'm anxious for the finished product.
This is a reminder that it's coming. And a reminder that I'm the one that's going to make it happen.

Emak Bakia

I've been meaning to find this video for so long, and finally, accidentally, found a link to it the other day.

This is supposed to be one of the 'weirder' of Man Ray's avant-garde short films, and it ended up being perfect for watching at the coffeehouse yesterday, all by myself on the patio, sitting under an awning, waiting for the rain to stop pouring so I could walk back home without my umbrella.

Matou en Peluche

Last night I found Matou en Peluche - aka Sam Battersby - aka my new favorite illustrator ever. I bought three prints - actually I bought two, but I'm getting three because she's having a sale - but I want all of them! It seems I am really only starting my collection.

See her shop. See her blog.

Twinkle lights and special drinks

Tonight we are having a very last minute holiday party. I get to wear a sparkly 60s mini dress. And boyfriend just made me a new tree-topper out of tin foil and cellophane. And we will drink homemade blackberry liqueur.

You go here now.

These posts made my week even better than it was.

Little Byrd gave us scans from a 70's Time Life photography book.

I was thinking about painting my bare, nubby fingernails when this post went ahead and clinched the deal.

Ringo saves the day again by scanning in the Apartamento/Chloe Sevigny article.

Anja got a subscription to Fudge Magazine. I got new hair inspiration.
